Amber Hilberling Found Guilty of Pushing Husband to His Death

Posted: Updated:

A Tulsa woman was found guilty today of pushing her husband to his death from their high-rise apartment.

Deliberations in the trial of Amber Hilberling began Monday after two hours of closing arguments. Shortly after the jury began deliberating, Hilberling's legal team told Channel 8 the 21-year-old was, "very, very afraid." They said she is going through this trial to be able to come home to her infant son, Levi.

Hilberling was charged with pushing her husband to his death from their 25th floor apartment.

The jury came back with the guilty verdict around 4 p.m. The jury recommended a sentence of 25 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Hilberling testified last week that she pushed Joshua Hilberling in self-defense. Joshua Hilberling died after falling through the glass window and landing on a parking garage 17 floors below in June 2011.

"We didn't know whether she [Hilberling] was going to testify or not, and certainly the jury listened to that, and they found that she was not credible," said Prosecutor Michelle Keely.

Prosecutors said that Amber Hilberling intentionally shoved her husband because she was angry that he was about to leave her.

Defense attorneys say the death was a "tragic accident."

In the closing arguments, prosecutors pointed out that no one at the scene ever recorded hearing Amber Hilberling mention self-defense.
