CHARELSTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The James beard Foundation announced Monday the finalists for the foundation's awards at Lowndes Grove Plantation in downtown Charleston. Some of the biggest names in Charleston's culinary scene were among the finalists.
There are five local chefs and two restaurants on the list of semifinalists, including The Ordinary for best new restaurant. The Ordinary advanced to the finals. McCrady's Sean Brock advanced to the finals in the Outstanding Chef category. Nathalie Dupree and Cynthia Graubert moved into the finals for their book Southern Comfort in the American Cooking category.
The James beard awards are the nation's most prestigious program recognizing professionals in the culinary world.
During the luncheon, foundation leaders announced the five finalists in the restaurant and chef categories, as well as restaurant design, cookbooks and journalism and broadcast categories.
