Budget cuts force cancellation of battle colors ceremony
BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCIV) - Marine Corps Barracks 8th and I has notified Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort that the Battle Color Ceremony which was scheduled for Wednesday was canceled.
Due to budget constraints and an Office of the Secretary of Defense directive limiting all musical and ceremonial units from traveling outside their local area, the appearance of the Battle Color Detachment here as well as other installations across Marine Corps Installations East have been canceled until further notice.
The ceremony is the most recent in a line of cancellations due to budget cuts stemming from the sequestration. Air shows across the state have been canceled as well.
