(Citadel SID)-

Spartanburg, S.C. – Bulldog sophomore Bo Thompson didn't let a sore ankle prevent him from putting up some impressive numbers over the past four games, earning him Southern Conference Player of the Week honors from the league office.

The first baseman/designated hitter is the second player of the week selected from The Citadel so far this season, with Drew DeKerlegand picking up the award on March 4. In addition, Tyler Griffin and Austin Pritcher were the SoCon Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for February.

Thompson went 9-for-18 (.500) in one game against Akron and a three-game SoCon series against Wofford. He had two doubles and two home runs, scored five runs and drove in six for a slugging percentage of .944 and an on-base mark of .571. Thompson sat out the other weekday game against the Zips.

He began the week by going 2-for-4 with two RBI in a 9-3 win over Akron on Wednesday, and his solo homer in the fifth wiped out a one-run Citadel deficit. He then went 7-for-14 to help the Bulldogs win the series against the Terriers (2-1) over the weekend.

Thompson had a two-run homer in the first inning and an RBI single to trigger a four-run fifth to lift The Citadel to a 9-8 victory in the middle game of the Wofford series. He had three more hits in an 18-9 win in the finale including a double and single as part of a 10-run first inning.

Thompson sat out three games after injuring his ankle on March 2 against VCU but has been red hot at the plate since his return against Samford six days later. He hit three home runs and drove in a career-high five runs in the opening game of the Samford series and is riding a career-high seven-game hitting streak (16-for-31, .516) with five homers and 12 RBI beginning with that contest.

Overall this season, Thompson is batting a team-leading .403 and also paces the Bulldogs with seven home runs and a slugging percentage of .839. His seven home runs are already one more than The Citadel team leader in that category for the entire 2012 campaign. Thompson also has six doubles and 21 RBI while reaching base safely in all 17 of his games played.

Entering Tuesday's game against South Carolina, Thompson leads the SoCon in slugging percentage and is tied for the league lead in home runs. He also ranks second in on-base percentage (.506), fourth in batting average and total bases (52) and eighth in RBI.
