HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
A Harrisburg man has been held for trial in the bludgeoning death of another man and the attempted homicide of the victim's brother.
Jonathan Monte Cornish, 55, appeared for a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge George Zozos, who found enough evidence to forward the case to Dauphin County court. A formal arraignment was scheduled for May 14.
Cornish is accused of fatally beating 60-year-old Jose Vazquez with a small sledgehammer February 13 inside Vazquez's home in the 1500 block of Vernon Street. Police said Cornish had reportedly lived with Vazquez for a few days before the killing.
According to a police, Cornish then attacked Vazquez's brother, who was visiting the home and was attempting to stop the attack when Cornish used the hammer to strike him on the side of the head.
Cornish was stabbed in
the back and struck on the side of the head as the brother fought off the attack. He was sent to Dauphin County Prison, where he remains without bail, after recovering from his wounds at a hospital.
