NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A 26-year-old North Charleston man was arrested Wednesday night and charged in the shooting of a delivery truck driver on Monday.
According to North Charleston police, Melvin Smalls III was arrested in connection to the shooting. Information from the investigation led detectives to Smalls, police said.
According to a police report, the victim was shot in his side when he was standing behind his Budweiser delivery truck on the Tommy lift. His coworker dragged him inside the back of the truck when he realized what had happened.
Witness told police a black male in dark clothing got out of a brown PT Cruiser and fired several shots toward the Budweiser truck.
The victim was taken to Medical University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Smalls was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Smalls' bond was set at $950,000 Thursday night. At the hearing, the victim's family called Smalls a family friend.
