Be the Bay found its silver lining at The Silver Box in Gloucester, Va.

The Silver Box on Gloucester’s Main Street is the newest authorized dealer of Be the Bay wear and gifts.

“I have lived my entire life on the water and wanted to carry a line that represented this area,” said Martha Soles, founder and owner of The Silver Box.

“Be the Bay gives back to the preservation of the Bay and The Silver Box contributes to that effort as well. The Silver Box has and always will support the community in any way we can.”

Be the Bay is a casual apparel company featuring original Chesapeake Bay-themed art by its marine biologist founders, Paula and Dave Jasinski. It launched in 2007 as a way to celebrate everything people love about the Chesapeake. A portion of sales are donated each year to Chesapeake Bay restoration projects.

“When you start to look around, it’s amazing to see how many people call the water and the Chesapeake Bay part of their life and fondest memories,” said Be the Bay President and Founder, Paula Jasinski. “We’re honored to be part of The Silver Box and work with yet another great local company that’s promoting the importance of Bay restoration.”

The Silver Box opened its doors on March 27, 2004.

“I've had a passion for jewelry and all things girly my entire life,” Soles said. “Many customers can see this from a small sampling of my vintage Barbie collection that I display in the shop.”

Before opening The Silver Box, Soles worked in the banking industry. She started out by selling sterling silver jewelry from her home.

“It was important for me to offer nice jewelry at an affordable price for my friends and neighbors,” Soles said. “My dream of owning a store was finally realized when The Silver Box opened its doors. Business quickly grew and we found ourselves in need of a larger space. You can now find us at our happy corner of Main and Botetourt.”

Soles vows to show her appreciation to the customers who support The Silver Box by “working hard to do everything we can for them and giving back to our community.”

The Silver Box carries a variety of Be the Bay’s designs, including, among other popular designs, “peace love oysters,” “peace love blue crabs,” and 100 percent woven silk blue crab ties.
