Gas prices continue downward trend

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- Gas prices across the state of South Carolina fell another 3.2 cents per gallon over the last week to an average of $3.42 per gallon on Sunday, according to price-tracking website GasBuddy.

The website reports that national prices fell 2.5 cents per gallon to an average price of $3.64 in the last week.

"Average gasoline prices have continued to quietly move lower in the last week across much of the United States at a time of year when we historically are accustomed to seeing prices move higher," said Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

Current prices in South Carolina are now 23.1 cents lower than the same time one year ago and 16.1 cents lower that the same time one month ago.

Nationally, the average price per gallon is 9.5 cents below the same time one month ago and 21.9 cents lower than on year ago, the site reports.

"As of late last week, all 50 states saw lower gasoline prices than the same date last year, and the savings at the pump for motorists -- while not staggering -- amounts to millions of dollars a day," DeHaan said.
