Police: Mt. Pleasant school lockdown was for pharmacy robbery

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) - A Mount Pleasant school was on lockdown briefly Monday morning due to police activity in the area. Several hours after the incident, police have finally told us the details surrounding the robbery that caused the lockdown.

According to an incident report from the Mount Pleasant police, the East Cooper Family Pharmacy was robbed around 9:30 a.m.

Officials with Charleston County School District said the lockdown at JB Edwards School of Global Leadership had been lifted sometime around noon Monday.

Police report the suspect is described as a male, "possibly white," wearing a "puffy" camouflage jacket and blue jeans with a face mask and latex gloves. Witnesses told police the robber was armed with a 9mm handgun.

Witnesses told police the suspect came in through the walk-up door on the Bowman Road side of the pharmacy.

The police report the robber got away with 10 bottles of oxycodone, each containing 100 pills and two bottles of hydromorphone, each containing 100 pills.

In a supplemental report, an officer says he saw a man matching the suspect's description at the corner of Bowman and Frontage Road but the details on the suspect hadn't been released yet so the officer didn't know to stop him. He made note of the man because he was standing as if trying to cross the street, but didn't do so.

The officer noted the man's camo pattern was called "erdl," and older pattern with green, brown and beige colors. He also noted the man seemed to be wearing a ski cap on his head and looked like he was talking on a cell phone. Ten minutes later the officer was told of the armed robbery suspect.

If anyone has any information about this or any other crime, they are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
