NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A man told hospital staff and police officers that he was shot in North Charleston early Monday morning while trying to solicit a prostitute, police said.

According to North Charleston police, officers were called to Medical University Hospital around 2:25 a.m. Monday after a man told doctors he had been shot.

The man told officers he was at the intersection of Iris Street and Spruill Avenue picking up escorts when a four-door car drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was reportedly hit in the right hand.

The man was taken to MUSC by a friend and dropped off at the door.

Officers went to the area but did not find shell casings or a crime scene. Police also note that there were no calls for shots fired.
