Clemson, Univ. of Georgia hosting wildlife meeting

Posted: Updated:

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Clemson University and the University of Georgia are hosting a conference on conflicts between humans and wildlife.

The meeting is happening this week at Clemson's Madren Center. Researchers are getting updates on the unintended consequences humans and animals living together in America.

Over the past century, development, reforestation and restocking programs have expanded habitat and populations, bringing more people and wildlife closer together than ever before.

Organizers say wildlife damage tallies more than $28 billion a year nationwide. More than 4,000 motorists have deer-related vehicle crashes a year, resulting in the deaths of more than 200 people.
