North Charleston community service officer charged with assault

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP/WCIV) - A North Charleston Police community service officer has been arrested and accused of assaulting three girls and a young woman who were guests at his home.

Authorities say 20-year-old Salvatore Maniche was arrested last week and remains in the Dorchester County Jail.

Court records show he faces 16 charges, among them criminal sexual conduct, assault and kidnapping. Authorities say the incidents took place over two years.

Sheriff's deputies were notified last week when a Fort Dorchester High School teacher reported bruises on an 18-year-old student. Court documents show 3 of the other victims were 16.

Maniche is a civilian employee of the police department and has been placed on unpaid leave. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Maniche's bond was set at $450,000 for the 16 charges.
