NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The 315th Airlift Wing marked women's history month with a career aviation day for eighth and ninth grade female students Tuesday.

Lily Lewis-Dove already saw her future taking off.

"[I love] everything about [flying]. It's an adrenaline rush," said the eighth grade Fort Johnson Middle School student.

Almost 200 eighth and ninth grade students got a bird's eye view of what their futures could hold.

"They come in this morning and don't know what they're here for. By the end of the day, we do tend to find they ask an awful lot of questions," said Lt. Col. Debi Rieflin.

Rieflin said students got a little taste of everything, including touring the cockpit, seeing the engine and learning about the medical and business practices.

"The opportunity is to see how much we love our careers in aviation and hopefully some of them may choose the same," she said.

Lily was already sold on a career as a pilot, she said. But the women in her hopeful field surprised and inspired her Tuesday, she said.

"It makes me feel more confident about it. I really want to do it. My mind's set to it," she said.

She said she wants to attend college at the Air Force Academy.

Officials said this year was the sixth annual career event at Joint Base.
