NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A North Charleston man was arrested Wednesday for a burglary of a Harris Street apartment that happened earlier in the week.

According to Charleston police, 38-year-old Samuel Eugene Durden was charged with first-degree burglary.

Durden is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.

A police report shows the victim, Durden's ex-girlfriend, was in the living room when someone began banging on the back door. She told police she heard noises coming from an upstairs bedroom.

When she went upstairs, she found Durden had broken into her apartment through a bedroom window, police said.

Durden allegedly assaulted the victim and fled the scene, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
