Colleton deputies uncover meth lab on Augusta Highway

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- While searching for a man wanted by Goose Creek police on burglary charges, Colleton County deputies on Wednesday afternoon found a working meth lab being operated by the wanted man and two others.

According to Colleton County deputies, they were searching for Kendle Scott Masterson, who was wanted on first-degree burglary charges in Goose Creek. They believed he was hiding at a home on Augusta Highway in Cottageville, deputies said.

The home belonged to Kenneth Dean Barr and Samantha W. Burdette, deputies said.

When deputies arrived at the home, they found Masterson as well as several items that are usually found in homes where meth is being produced, according to a statement by the sheriff's office.

A search of the home revealed a mid-sized Red Phosphorus "Red-P" lab and a large collection of hypodermic needles, digital scales, chemicals, meth waste and approximately three grams of methamphetamine, the statement reads.

The DEA was notified and agents assisted with the identification and dismantling of the lab, deputies said.

Deputies are still investigating, but said charges would be brought against Masterson, Burdette and Barr for manufacturing meth.

Masterson was turned over to the Goose Creek Police Department.
