Stealing Your Identity By Tracking You

Posted: Updated:

A new study finds that it's easy to figure out someone's identity.

You just need to track where they go with their smartphone.

Those devices are easily tracked by GPS.

Researchers from MIT and elsewhere tracked about 1.5 million people for 15 months.

They determined it only took four locations to figure out a person's identity.

Those data points include locations like work, the gym, a church, or a coffee shop.

Those points create special patterns that are like fingerprints and unique to nearly every person.

The findings concern privacy advocates.

They say efforts to keep our personal information private are failing.
