Once left to die, Dara now being adopted

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) - The dog left to die in a Georgetown canal reached another milestone Friday -- she has a new family.

Dara, a black lab found with her muzzle and legs bound with tape last year, was adopted after a judge granted ownership to the Saint Frances Animal Center. The adoptive family said they decided to remain anonymous for Dara's safety.

In an executive committee meeting Thursday night, members decided to contact the investigators in the case to find out who provided information that led to Bobby McConnell's arrest so that they can hand out the reward money.

Investigators and board members will meet in the next two weeks to review the case file.

McConnell pleaded guilty March 18 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
