Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Several landmarks and a couple of mayors are teaming up to support autism awareness this month.

According to a release by the Medical University of South Carolina & Lowcountry Autism Consortium, the "Light It Up Blue" campaign kicks off Tuesday to celebrate World Autism Awareness Month.

Both mayors Joe Riley and Keith Summey are scheduled to proclaim their cities will celebrate April as World Autism Month.

Starting at 8:15 p.m., several landmarks around the peninsula will light up the night sky with blue light displays.

  • Old Exchange Building - cupola lights on top of the bldg
  • Dock Street Theatre - lights on the front of the cast iron balcony
  • Charleston Harbor Pilots Assoc. - office and pilot boat
  • MUSC Tower - horseshoe area's circular drive
  • Ashley River Bridge
  • USS Yorktown

Local residents are invited to join in by creating blue light displays of their own. If your family or business has a display they would like to share, you can post it on our Facebook page or submit photos to our iWitness page.
