Fire puts delay on business's debut

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – A business was supposed to have its grand opening Tuesday, but instead firefighters were making sure it was structurally sound.

"We haven't had a fire of this magnitude that's affected so many businesses," said Phillip Fisher, the director of operations for Craftsmen Kitchen and Tap House on Cumberland Street, which was slated to open its doors Tuesday. "After spending a million dollars doing renovations, 15 months of hard laborious work all compiled into one grand opening day put on hold for one more time for something we can't control. But that's the nature of the business and we just hope tomorrow will be a better day."

Fisher now wonders if he'll be able to open for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

"Hope for the best," he said.

The business was not damaged at all. Fisher said he is waiting to confirmation on the building structure.
