Police: Earlier assault may have led to weekend shooting

Posted: Updated:

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) -- Walterboro police issued warrants for a man wanted for attempted murder less than an hour after he reportedly assaulted the same victim.

According to police reports, it all started around 9:45 p.m. Sunday night when officers responded to the hospital for an assault that reportedly happened at a Mincey Street home.

The victim said he was at the house talking with someone when he was hit above his left eye and cheek with an object by 23-year-old Raheem Jamal Henderson who the victim said then pointed a gun at him. The victim had to get stitches on his face after the assault. Officers issued a warrant for assault for Henderson.

Less than an hour later, officers responded to an apartment on Sniders Highway after several 911 calls were made saying there were shots fired in the area.

Police arrived to find the same victim from before standing in the parking lot saying he had heard 7-8 shots and that his truck window was shot out.

The victim told police he believed Henderson was responsible because of the incident earlier in the night.

Officers found one bullet had gone through the driver's side door to the passenger side windshield and ended up in the grass nearby. They also found seven 9mm casings behind a dumpster in front of one the apartment buildings. Another bullet reportedly hit one of the buildings but didn't get past the wall.

Now on top of the assault warrant, Henderson is wanted for attempted murder, malicious damage to a vehicle and discharging a firearm within city limits.

The victim was not injured.
