A cookie delivery to troops

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – Alice Lang stood inside Deer Park Baptist Church reading one of the letters from a soldier. "We are forever grateful for you sincere generosity and generosity to our troops," is read.

After she finished, she said with affirmation, "And that is why we do it."

Lang is part of the nonprofit Tri-County Blue Star Mothers and Families. The group formed in 2002 to support soldiers and veterans through projects.

On Monday, the group finished packaging 500 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to ship out Tuesday. The cookies were given to them by the Girl Scouts of America.

"These were cookies that when they were out selling they asked the people to buy a box for our troops," she said.

Just as the letters warm their hearts, members with the nonprofit hope the packages of delicious cookie favorites will do the same for those who continue to serve.

"They are just so far from home," Lang said.

Sending a box of "thanks a lot" is a way to bring a piece of home to them.

"Let them know they are not forgotten that we are still thinking of them," she said.

The cookies will make their way to soldiers in Afghanistan and those serving in the navy.
