Haley joins Georgia-Pacific for ceremony at mill

ALCOLU, S.C. (AP) -- Georgia-Pacific is celebrating the opening of a new mill that makes a building material used in construction.

Gov. Nikki Haley will join Georgia-Pacific executives Wednesday for a ceremony at the company's Clarendon County plant.

The plant makes a product called oriented strand board. The material is made from compressed wood arranged in layers and is used in subfloors, roves and other areas of housed and commercial buildings.

The mill in Alcolu will employ 130 people. Georgia-Pacific also has a mill that makes the material in Allendale County that has 120 workers.
