Getting Ready For Summer On Grand Lake

Posted: Updated:

This week's cold blast will be a happy memory, just as soon as the heat of summer sets in.

Justin Alberty with the Grand River Dam Authority visited KTUL Thursday morning to talk about what's in store this spring and summer on Grand Lake and Lake Hudson.

Alberty said there are some great, free classes coming up that will help keep teens safe before the boats are launched this year.

"A few years ago they passed some legislation that requires kids between the ages between 12 and 16, if they don't have a valid drivers license, they have to have this course to operate certain boats on Oklahoma lakes and waterways," Alberty said.

The Kyle Williams Boating Safety Education act safe boating classes begin April 20th and continue on May 11th, June 8th, June 15th and July 27th. For more information contact Lori at 918-256-0644

Other upcoming events include:

Rush For Brush: May 11th and June 1st - Participating Anglers will help build new fish habitats and "structure" that will be placed on the beds of Grand and Hudson lakes.

Lend a Hand For Lady Grand: June 22nd - Shoreline pickup and cleanup effort. Dumpsters will be provided by GRDA

Tours of Pensacola Dam: Memorial Day through Labor Day - Free tours of Oklahoma's first hydro-electric facility
