Murder suspect David Chavis to ask for bond reduction

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man accused in a Berkeley County murder is expected in court to ask for a bond reduction.

The hearing is slated for Friday morning.

Police say 43-year-old David Chavis killed 23-year-old Darrell Allen last year.

Allen was found shot to death in a Nissan Altima that was discovered in the ditch next to Lindy Creek Road during on December 13, 2012.

Chavis walked into the Goose Creek Police Department with a gunshot wound to his upper right arm six hours after the incident.

According to an affidavit, Chavis told police he shot Allen in self defense following an altercation inside the car.

Chavis was initially charged with possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony and has been in jail ever since.

After looking at forensic evidence, investigators got a warrant charging Chavis with Allen's murder.
