CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -
A Carlisle man was charged with attempted robbery and other crimes after he tried to steal another man's backpack and then threatened a witness to the incident, according to borough police.
Zenotha A. Williams, 21, was being held in Cumberland County Prison after failing to post $75,000 bail.
Carlisle police said Williams tried to yank the backpack from the shoulder of a 53-year-old man Thursday morning in the first block of West North Street, and when the victim asked him why, Williams replied: "This is the hood. It happens."
Williams then confronted a female witness and attempted to use his body to back her into a corner and against a van while making threats, police said.
Responding officers found him chasing another bystander and took him into custody without further incident, police said.
In addition to attempted robbery, he was charged with attempted theft and disorderly conduct. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 17.
