SC Korean War vets added to DC memorial visit

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina military supporters are making sure the state's Korean War veterans know their service is appreciated.

The group Honor Flight South Carolina is hosting dozens of Korean War veterans - as well as some from World War II - on a daylong, all-expenses-paid tour of military memorials in Washington, D.C.

Group spokesman Ron Saxton says recent headlines about tensions on the Korean peninsula bring to mind the sacrifices made during the bloody 1950s conflict. Some call it the forgotten war, but Saxton says veterans know its realities.

In all, Saxton says 70 Korean War and 20 World War II veterans will take Wednesday's flight to D.C. They will visit memorials for those who served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and other sites.
