Roadside market plants itself on James Island

Posted: Updated:

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) – A fresh new farmers market has sprouted from an old parking lot off Folly Road.

On Saturday, Carolina Local, a roadside market, debuted next to James Island Bar & Grill.

"For our requirements, this was a great location with the fencing it has," said Chris Bible, who created Carolina Local. "We're open seven days a week as of now and we are here to serve you."

Bible is also the businessman behind Peanut Dude's Boiled Peanuts. He says he wanted to create a place where entrepreneurs could come together and share their specialties.

"Six years ago, I started selling boiled peanuts in Mount Pleasant. It was a challenging time in my life, and the local community came in and embraced us as an upcoming entrepreneur."

Now Bible hopes Carolina Local will do the same for others.

Right now, there are more than a dozen local businesses participating. All the fresh vegetables and fruit come from Gruber Farm in St. George.

Carolina Local is located at 819 Folly Rd. in James Island.
