Study: Voting wait times in SC among longest

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A new study finds that the average time it takes to vote in South Carolina is 1 of the longest in the nation. But the wait time does seem to be getting a bit shorter.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that a study by Massachusetts Institute of Technology political scientist Charles Stewart found the average South Carolinian waited 25 minutes to vote last November.

But that's better than the average wait time of about an hour back in 2008.

Florida voters waited the longest last year, about 39 minutes. Voters in the District of Columbia and Maryland also waited longer than South Carolinians.
