CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - A spokeperson for the navy has confirmed that a patrol boat monitoring the grounded boat was mistaken at sea.
According to Coast Guard officials, a Cutter was heading out of the Charleston channel around 10:15 a.m. when the lookout spotted what appeared to be a sunken ship sticking out of the water.
The crew put a small boat in the search for the boat and lost sight of it.The search has been suspended.
This is the third incident in the South Jetty in the past few days. A Navy ship ran aground Saturday night in the same area and a Charleston fireboat struck an object heading to help the Navy ship.
