9 arrested on drug charges in Charleston police sweep

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Charleston police drug sweep landed nine people in handcuffs late last week, officials said.

According to a release from the Charleston Police Department, a joint operation between the West Ashley and James Island teams resulted in nine arrests on drug charges last Thursday and Friday.

Police executed search warrants at two Seacroft Road homes on Thursday and a Locust Street home on Friday, officials said.

At the first Seacroft Road home, police confiscated 11.5 grams of cocaine, 8.5 grams of cocaine base and more than $1,900 in cash, police said. Ishmel Lemon, 26, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine base with the intent to distribute and possession of cocaine base with the intent to distribute within close proximity of a school. Lemon's bond was set at $250,000.

At the second Seacroft Road home, police confiscated a handgun, 22.5 grams of cocaine base and more than $1,600 in cash, police said. Officers arrested 24-year-old James Washington Jr., and charged him with trafficking cocaine base and trafficking cocaine base within close proximity of a school. His bond was set at $200,000.

Officers also arrested Kendall Ladson, 36, Jeromy Campbell, 20, and Murphy Jenkins, 25.

Ladson was charged with trafficking cocaine base and trafficking cocaine base within close proximity of a school. His bond is set at $200,000.

Campbell was charged with possession of cocaine, trafficking cocaine base and distribution of a controlled substance within close proximity of a school.Campbells' bond is set at $300,000.

Jenkins was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within close proximity of a school, trafficking cocaine base and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. His bond is set at $400,000.

At the Locust Street home, police said they found two grams of cocaine base and two grams of marijuana. Officers arrested Akeem Wright, 24, James Grant, 51, and Ronzel Olds, 20. They were charged with possession of cocaine base with the intent to distribute and simple possession of marijuana, according to police.

Bond for Grant is set at $25,000. According to court records, Wright was released on a surety $50,000 bond and Olds was released on a $25,000 bond.

Police also arrested 53-year-old Eric Minter and charged him with possession of cocaine base with the intent to distribute and simple possession of marijuana.

All nine suspects were being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
