CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A group of local runners have decided to band together to show support for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Adrienne Levy is heading up Sunday's group run and has been spreading the word on Twitter using the hashtag #chsrunsforboston.

"I've been running for about five years, and I just really wanted to do something to honor the Boston Marathon to show that runners have spirit," she said. "And the Charleston community is united in helping the victims of the Boston Marathon."

Levy says she had just experienced the elation of finishing a big race over the weekend and was heartbroken that many runners in Boston crossed the finish line to find a tragedy unfolding instead.

"I think the best thing runners can do is just keep running," she said. "It breaks my heart thinking about what happened but at least on Sunday we can all try and run together and keep up our spirits."

Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite race shirt and bring friends. Walkers are also welcome. SHe also stresses that this is not an official race, but a group run, so participants are asked to keep safety in mind regarding traffic.

The run starts at the corner of Broad and Ashley Avenue after a moment of silence at 8 a.m.

The 5K run is free to the public and will start at Colonial Lake, head down the Battery, back to Calhoun and finish at Colonial Lake.

If runners want to donate money, Levy suggests contacting the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and Boston Children's Hospital. She hopes to have more information available on Sunday.
