NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A police chase near Morningside Middle School led to a multi-school lockdown for several Charleston County schools Wednesday morning.
The lockdown was lifted a short time later.
According to Charleston County School District spokesman Jason Sakran, there was a car chase involving police that turned into a foot chase near the schools.
As a result, Morningside Middle School, Hersey Elementary School, School of the Arts, Academic Magnet, Charleston Progressive Academy, Liberty Hill Academy and North Charleston Creative Arts School were placed under administrative lockdown due to the police activity.
Sakran said the schools were still operating normally.
North Charleston police said officers tried to make a traffic stop at Morningside Drive and Singley Street, but the driver initially refused to stop.
According to police, the driver later stopped and ran from the vehicle headed down Montague Avenue toward Gaynor Avenue. Officers are currently looking for the man, police said.
