(CSU SID)-

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Charleston Southern scored in all but one inning and piled up its most hits in almost two full seasons in an 11-5 win over Savannah State on Wednesday night.
The Bucs move to 15-22 overall and pick up their third-straight win. SSU falls to 21-16.
Charleston Southern had 20 on the night, its most since it also had 20 in a win against Presbyterian in May of 2011. However, Bucs' head coach Stuart Lake was equally excited about the effort he received from his bullpen – seven shutout innings - after a rocky start.
"It was one of those nights where it was a complete team effort," Lake said following the win. "I thought our bullpen was excellent after the first two innings. We practiced at night under the lights (Tuesday) night and I thought our guys were ready to play then. We came out ready again tonight."
The win gives the Bucs some on-field momentum heading into their first night game at CSU Ballpark on Friday. The Bucs have won four of their last five and are playing some of their best baseball at a key time for a growing program.
"We're just excited," Lake said. "It's an exciting time and big weekend for our program. It's good to have some confidence and momentum going into a big series for us."
It's also good to have some of their best bats heating back up. Bobby Ison, Alex Tomasovich, and Brian Welch each had four hits as CSU flooded the base paths.
The Bucs scored in every inning but the fourth, rallying from a 5-3 deficit.
"It's tough (to win) on the road tough," Lake said. "It just seemed like Alex and a couple of guys had a few quality at-bats early and that allowed us to relax. It seemed like Bobby (Ison) was on all base all night and just kept us energized."
Ison was 4-for-6 with a double and a triple. He also scored three times and stole a base. Welch was also 4-for-6 with a double and a triple.
Tomasovich added a 4-for-5 night with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Ison opened the scoring with an RBI triple in the first to score Kevin Hickey. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Tomasovich as the Bucs took a 2-0 lead.
Welch doubled and scored on a Zach Haralambis sacrifice fly in the second for the Bucs third run.
Haralambis added an RBI single in the seventh and Robbie Streett added a sacrifice fly and an RBI double in the late innings to cap the Bucs' scoring.
The Bucs' Chase Shelton picked up the win working two shutout innings as CSU used seven pitchers.
Austin Weekley worked two shutout innings and Andrew Tomasovich worked a perfect ninth in relief.
Charleston Southern plays the first night game at CSU Ballpark on Friday at 7 p.m. against Presbyterian. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. on the CSU campus. Tickets to the game are $7 for general admission.
