USC launches online Palmetto College at Statehouse

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Students who haven't been able to complete their college degrees are getting a new option through the University of South Carolina.

USC President Harris Pastides and Chancellor Susan Elkins announced Thursday that enrollment is officially open for the new South Carolina Palmetto College.

The online program allows students who have completed 60 hours of course work in the classroom to complete seven types of degrees. The programs are administered through several USC campuses across the state.

USC officials have touted the program as a way for people to finish their studies without relocating. USC officials say the degrees are in business administration, criminal justice, elementary education, nursing, human services, liberal arts studies and organizational leadership.

Pastides thanked lawmakers at the Statehouse for providing $5 million last year to jumpstart the program.
