Sanford to travel 1st District next week

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford hits the campaign trail in the 1st District next week and has invited his Democratic opponent, Elizabeth Colbert Busch to join him.

Sanford plans 15 stops in five days at small businesses and other venues. He says since there have not been any joint appearances in the campaign, Colbert Busch should join him to give her side of the issues.

There was no immediate response from her campaign in regards to his invitation.

Sanford appeared on a Charleston radio station WTMA on Friday, again explaining about being in his ex-wife Jenny's house in February. He said his son was watching the Super Bowl at another house, didn't like the crowd and wanted to go home at half time to watch someplace quieter. Sanford says he went with him.

The Colbert Busch camp says the democratic candidate will be in Beaufort on Saturday.

She's scheduled to meet with business leaders, residents and Port Royal Mayor Sam Murray to share her agenda for creating jobs in the state and "getting the country's fiscal house in order."
