Survey: Breast Cancer Rates Climb After Controversial Mammogram Study

Four years ago, a government task force recommended against routine mammograms for women in their 40's.

It was a controversial decision with some predicting an increase in breast cancer deaths.

Now, a new study finds doctors and their patients have made up their own minds.

Analyzing data from nearly 28,000 women, researchers found mammogram rates actually rose slightly for women in their 40s40'snce that recommendation.

They note several prominent professional and advocacy groups continue to recommend mammograms for those women despite the government's finding.
