CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - This week is South Carolina's first ever Stay Safe Online Week. It's a few days set aside to remind parents how important it is to monitor what their children do on the web.
"Biggest problems online are predators," said Charleston Police Department detective Douglas Galluccio. "They basically lurk in all different types of social media platforms."
Charleston police urge parents to always check what is posted on their kids' pages, especially on Facebook.
"Check privacy settings, who they are chatting with, who are on their friends list, check their statuses and pictures they are posting," he said.
Law enforcement also recommends making sure that cell phone numbers and email addresses aren't posted anywhere on any profile.
