MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) – When John Meadows hit the pavement Monday evening, he had a special someone on his mind.

"I have a niece that lives two blocks away from where the bomb went off," said John Meadows. "And, she was affected by the lockdown and of course the tragedy that happened."

Meadows was one of about a hundred others who ran or walked in honor of the Boston Marathon victims Monday at TrySports in Mount Pleasant.

"It doesn't matter your political beliefs, religious background, none of that matters because you're all runners and it just brings you together," Meadows said.

The group ran 2.62 miles from Towne Center in Mount Pleasant up Hungryneck Boulevard. The length of the course was significant of the 26.2 miles Boston Marathoners ran the week before.

"It's the least we can do just to kind of show our tribute to the victims and family members," said Maynard Anderson, who ran the race with his wife.

"We just did the Cooper River Bridge Run and -- it's such a wonderful thing," said Alisha Anderson. "And, then to imagine things turning so badly, so quickly and unexpectedly."

As each runner completed the race, they cheered on those behind them.

"It lets you know that at the end of the day, people have each other backs and there's a lot of good in the world still," said Richard Bachschmidt.

TrySports stayed open late after the race Monday night in hopes of generating more sales.

Twenty-six percent of the revenue made Monday will be donated to the Boston One Fund.
