Public warning for Summerville residents lifted after sewer overflow

Posted: Updated:

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officials with Summerville Commissioners of Public Works say they had a "sanitary sewer overflow" Sunday and by Thursday, the resulting advisory was lifted.

The "high volume" of overflow was from a broken gravity main located south of Miles Jamison Road.

A release said the spill got into Chandler Bridge Creek near the Greenhurst Subdivision and that Chandler Bridge Creek, Eagle Creek and possibly parts of the Ashley River will be affected.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control was notified and tests show that bacteria levels have returned to normal.
