SC groups discuss need for immigration reform

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina groups favoring passage of immigration reform in Washington are meeting with reporters to discuss the need to pass the law.

Last week, a bipartisan group of U.S. senators, including South Carolina's Lindsey Graham, introduced legislation that addresses immigration issues and outlines a pathway to citizenship for people in the nation illegally.

Representatives of the NAACP, organized labor, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Latino Association of Charleston are holding a news conference in Charleston on Wednesday.

The bill in the Senate was crafted by the eight Democratic and Republican senators and deals with such issues as border security, immigrant visas and enforcement of immigration laws inside the country.
