Property taxes in N Charleston likely to rise

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - If you live in North Charleston your property taxes are most likely going to go up this year.

Mayor Keith Summey is proposing a small increase to cover rising city expenses.  Those expenses would cover things like school resource officers and fleet vehicles.

"When you've got the growth occurring we have to keep up with it," said Summey. "Next year, and the following year after that, we don't see any need for a tax increase."

If approved, the city's budget will increase by $4.8 million.  A family living in a $100,000 home would pay an extra 33 cents a month of taxes.
