CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — With the flick of a wrist the Cougar's hair is in the dirt. This is the second time the cougar baseball team is cutting their hair to symbolize the fight and the donation the team made to help kids fighting cancer.

"You know, I've never been personally affected by cancer so I can't say that I have but seeing Mac out here last year getting to be around him seeing him out again in remission, it's just such a heart warming story," said catcher Ryan Welke.

The team set a goal of $10,000 for the VS. Cancer foundation, Hugs for Harper and MUSC. Even Coach Monty Lee donated $250, towards that goal.

"Anything that you do that you do together like this, to sacrifice to be a part of something that's bigger than just a game of baseball is a good thing for your team," said Coach Monte Lee who eventually sat down for his turn.

Lee said even last year this really gave the team another perspective on life.

"We had actually lost a game, so after the loss I was pretty down and the guys were pretty down, when we sat to actually do the event and shaved our heads together and give money back for cancer, I felt it uplifted us a little bit and gave the guys a different perspective then just worrying about baseball all the time," said Lee.

Coach Lee is hoping this year's close shave will bring a little bit of luck to the season.

"Baseball players are superstitious. I'm hoping that it works in a positive way so they feel like when they shave their heads, they pitch better and play better," said Lee.
