CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Two people, including a Charleston Police officer, were taken to the hospital following a crash early Monday, according to officials on the scene.

The S.C. Highway Patrol was called in to investigate the crash at Line Street and Meeting Street in Charleston just before 4 a.m.

According to a SCHP spokesperson, a city police cruiser driven by Officer Carlos Torres was traveling east on Hwy 52 when a Chevy driven by 20-year-old Jasmine Wilson ran a stop light on Line St.

That's when the police cruiser struck the Chevy, ran off the road and hit a signal box.

Injuries in the crash were not life threatening. Both parties were taken to the hospital, Torres by another CPD officer and Wilson by an ambulance.

Officials say the scene has been cleared and is now open to traffic.

No charges we made and both parties had been released from the hospital by the time the responding trooper got to the scene.
