Robbery suspect on the way to jail: 'My parents are gonna kill me'

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the Folly Road Kangaroo convenience store for reports of an armed robbery around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Deputies were told by the clerk that a man came into the store wearing a hoodie over his head. The clerk said as he was about to tell the man that he couldn't wear the hoodie in the store the man lifted the bottom of the hoodie up, showing a firearm and said "register, open it let's go."

Deputies say the suspect took the cash from the register and ran off away from Folly Road.

A Charleston City K-9 unit tried to track the suspect but his trail went cold, making investigators believe there was a car waiting for him.

Then, around 3:30 a.m., Charleston City Police stopped to help a disabled 1998 Ford Windstar van on the Stono River Bridge.

The driver of the van matched the description of the suspect who had robbed the Kangaroo an hour earlier. Police found cash in the front seat of the van and the man appeared to be extremely nervous and sweating.

Officers arrested 29-year-old Chase Hill, charging him with the armed robbery.

Officers note as they were taking Hill to the detention center, he said "My parents are gonna kill me."
