Cherokee Nation Helps Fund Street Improvement Project

Posted: Updated:

The Cherokee Nation handed over a big check in Owasso on Monday to help fix the streets.

The tribe is partnering with Tulsa County to improve Mingo Road from 96th Street to 116th Street.

Cherokee Nation is donating $236,700 for the needed materials and Tulsa County will supply the crews.

Crews will also refurbish the railroad crossing in the area.

"We believe it's important because we all use these roads," says Cherokee Nation Tribal Councilman Buel Anglen. "We use them daily, our citizens use these roads and our non-citizen friends use these roads. We believe it's just a perfect fit so everybody benefits from the Cherokee Nation money."

3,500 cars and trucks drive that stretch of road every day.

There is no time table for the project.
