COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) - A Colleton County couple was arrested and charged with stealing a military fuel tanker and 3,600 gallons of diesel fuel from a National Guard Armory.

The tanker truck, the sheriff's office reports, was returned early Tuesday morning under the cover of night.

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office says 42-year-old Clarence Edward Risher Jr., and 43-year-old Melinda Montjoy Risher were arrested after officers searched two homes on Risher Mountain Road. During the search, officers found nearly 2,700 gallons of fuel.

The find came after Department of Natural Resources used a plane and ATVs to search the area and linked the two homes to the theft.

The National Guard was called in to help deputies recover the fuel, deputies said.

More arrests are pending.
