CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston police responded to the Kangaroo Express on Main Road Tuesday night for reports of an armed robbery.

Around 11 p.m., members of the "Team 3 Power Squad" and a K-9 unit arrived on scene where the clerk told them a tall, black man wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts and dark colored tube socks over his hands came in holding a small silver handgun.

The clerk said he was outside putting unsold newspapers into a box for collection when the suspect came up behind him, put the gun against the back of this head and forced him to go back inside the store.

According to a police report, the suspect emptied the register and stole 10 packs of Newport cigarettes. The clerk said the suspect made him lay on the ground on his stomach and then ran off in an unknown direction.

POlice say they found packs of cigarettes in the parking lot, in the median of Main Road and in the intersection of Main and Spence Drive.

The suspect is described as being between 20 and 30-years-old, having a dark complexion and standing at 6'00-6'01 tall with a slender build.

If anyone has any information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspect, they are asked to call Det. Tuttle at 720-3041 or email him at tuttlee@charleston-sc.gov.
