MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (AP) - People who have never pitched a tent in the woods or slept in a sleeping bag outdoors can get some tips at an event at a South Carolina park.
The Great American Campout is scheduled to go through the weekend at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet.
Families stay in a secluded section of the park, and park rangers will help them set up their just tents if needed. In addition, the park has loaner tents and sleeping pads. Rangers will instruct families in such things as campfire cooking, rigging crabbing lines and throwing cast nets. There will also be instructors from Black River Outdoor Center to teach kayaking.
The 2,500-acre park draws more than 1 million visitors a year.
