CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A drug stop in West Ashley led to a high-speed chase up Interstate 26 Monday evening, police said. The person driving the car was able to elude police in the chase.
According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, the department's Narcotics Unit was investigating a white Lincoln SUV on Magwood Drive.
The driver of the SUV refused to stop for deputies and led officers to I-26, deputies said.
The pursuit was canceled when officers got to I-26, deputies said. The driver of the SUV was not stopped.
According to an incident report released Wednesday, the vehicle was being watched as a result of information provided by a confidential informant about a cocaine purchase. The report states that the driver of the SUV tossed 5 ounces of cocaine out of the window during the chase.
Deputies are still investigating the incident.
