NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a motorcycle accident during morning rush hour Tuesday.

According to Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant, the accident happened on I-26 eastbound at the 213 – Montague exit around 7 a.m.

Traffic was backed up a bit from the College Park exit to the accident scene, mainly from onlooker delays.

Wyant said the rider, 21-year-old William Johnson Jr from Moncks Corner was riding east on I-26 when his 1986 Honda motorcycle caught fire.

He was taken to MUSC by EMS. There was no collision, and Johnson was wearing his helmet.

Meanwhile, Bike Week has started in Myrtle Beach and drivers are asked to use caution. An additional number of bikers will be on the road, mostly on Highway 17. Black Bike Week starts next week.
